Kinini lot 7
Red currant, black tea, zero drama
Price
From $36 / 250g
Kinini cooperative Red Bourbon—washed, competition-bright, built for people who taste coffee like wine.
Limited bags; when the cooperative’s day-lot is gone, the SKU goes dark until the next landing. Buy for clarity, not comfort-food chocolate.
- Red Bourbon · washed
- Competition-style clarity
- Traceable day-lot
Provenance & cup
Northern Rwanda, volcanic soil, Kinini’s crew separating day-lots so this Red Bourbon doesn’t taste like “generic East Africa bright.” We roast for cuppers who write notes in margins—structured, tea-like, red-fruit snap. Not a cozy mug hug; a straight line from cherry to cup.
Sensory & service
Red currant and black tea up front, silky weight, acidity that pings like a tuning fork. Sweetness is clean grape—not jam. Finish lingers like a good Darjeeling. We recommend tasting filter-first to map acidity and sweetness before exploring espresso service—our roast is tuned to reward precise brew ratios and filtered water in the 90–110 ppm TDS range.

Dialed in nicely after one tweak
I brewed Kinini lot 7 twice before writing this. First cup was already good; a slightly finer grind made it click. Red currant and black tea up front, silky weight, acidity that pings like a tuning fork The finish stayed tidy as it cooled.

Clear cup, easy to serve to guests
Served Kinini lot 7 to guests over Filter / Espresso and it was easy to explain in the cup. The notes were readable without feeling forced. I’d reorder this for small dinners.

Good lot with real personality
Kinini lot 7 has real character but still behaves predictably. It didn’t need dramatic dialing in, just normal adjustments. Pleasantly surprised by how clean the cup stayed.
